It’s hard to believe the scenes in the Mall when a few years ago, this AISA writer was standing on near empty terraces at Meadow Park on cold winter nights. And a 20-year old Leah Williamson being subsituted, and instead of going to the bench, came to the railings on the corner of the North Bank and complained bitterly of the rough treatment she’d been receiving and how the referee wasn’t protecting the team. Little did she know she’d be standing in front of thousands outside Buckingham Palace one day. Or maybe she did…

To remind ourselves of the giant steps the women’s game have taken, here are a couple more images – again from 2019 – and look back to the same year where we posted a story, after Joe Montemurro was our guest speaker at an AISA meeting.
