The journey began in the early hours of Friday morning at Gatwick Airport (AISA’S Karen Pond recalls). With excitement buzzing and scarves packed, I boarded my flight to Porto for what would become a once-in-a-lifetime football experience—the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final.
A Scenic Start in Porto
While many fellow Arsenal Women supporters made their way directly to Lisbon and the fan fest, we opted for a more scenic route, staying the first night in Porto. That evening, we enjoyed a peaceful stroll through the Ribeira district, soaking up the riverside charm and building anticipation for the big game.

Saturday morning started with breakfast at our hotel, shared with a few fans from both sides—an early reminder of the unity that football can bring. We then caught the train to Lisbon, which, while slightly longer than expected, was filled with friendly faces and good vibes. Supporters from both Arsenal and Barcelona added to the buzz en route.
Arrival in Lisbon and Matchday Build-Up

Upon arriving in Lisbon, we grabbed lunch and were served by a warm-hearted Sporting Lisbon fan who wished us luck—a lovely moment of cross-club camaraderie. After lunch, we navigated the metro with some fellow Arsenal fans before arriving at the stadium. It was a balmy evening, but spirits were high. As fans filled the stands, we joined in a powerful rendition of “North London Forever,” the perfect soundtrack to the anticipation swirling around the final.
Kick-off, Drama, and Glory
The match got off to a solid start. A disallowed goal midway through the first half could have dampened the mood, but the Arsenal faithful remained loud and proud. As the second half progressed, Barcelona’s frustration became clear—it was far from the comfortable outing they may have expected. Then came the game-changing moment. In the 67th minute, Beth Mead and Stina Blackstenius came on, and the tide began to shift. Just seven minutes later, Mead set up Blackstenius for the goal that would crown Arsenal Women as European champions. The final 20+ minutes were end-to-end and nerve-wracking. When the final whistle blew, the Arsenal end erupted. Players rushed over to our corner of the stadium, joining in chants.

Trophy Lift and Celebrations
After the final whistle, the celebrations truly began. The Barcelona players collected their runners-up medals with grace, and then it was Arsenal’s moment. Captain Kim Little lifted the trophy as a cascade of red, white, and gold ticker tape filled the air. The players returned to the Arsenal supporters’ corner, where the party continued with hugs, photos, and songs echoing long into the night.

A Special Invite and Memorable Monday
Back in Lisbon, we toasted to victory with a few celebratory drinks before heading back to Porto. Sunday was a relaxing day of wandering the beautiful streets before our flight back to Gatwick.
But the adventure wasn’t over yet as a member of the Arsenal’s Supporters EDI&S Forum, I received an unexpected email: an invitation to a private reception at the club on Monday.

That morning, we made our way to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium , where we were welcomed warmly. Even the club dog, Win, joined the occasion—posing for photos (including one with the trophy itself!).
We were brought to the front of Armoury Square just in time for the official trophy lift, hosted by Arsenal legend Alex Scott and Nigel Mitchell the Club’s pitchside presenter . A touching tribute was paid to Maria Petri, a lifelong supporter whose spirit undoubtedly lives on in moments like this.

The Perfect Ending
After the trophy lift, we returned to Club Level, where the players and coaching staff soon arrived. Club captain Kim Little and Head Coach Renée Slegers gave heartfelt speeches, and I had the joy of meeting several players and taking photos with them—an unforgettable way to end a historic weekend.
From Porto to Lisbon, from the stadium stands to Armoury Square, the 2025 UWCL Final was more than a match—it was a celebration of football, community, and the unshakable bond between club and fans.
