SILVER MEMBERSHIP – UPDATE FEBRUARY 27

A JOINT MESSAGE FROM AISA, AST (The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust) and SILVER MEMBERS’ REPRESENTATIVE

On Friday afternoon, 27 February, AST, AISA and the Fans’ Forum Silver member representative were invited to a meeting with Arsenal at which the Club informed them of their decisions on the pricing arrangements for the silver membership scheme for the 2021/22 season.

During the meeting, the Club was asked whether this was a consultation and what opportunity existed for further review. The club stated that these were their firm plans but any additional views could be fed back before they were announced on 8 March.

We were all therefore very surprised and disappointed that an email was then sent to Silver members that evening confirming the details, and very concerned that it implied that there had been a consultative process leading to a decision that we were in agreement with.

Whilst the Supporter Groups were shown the Club decision on this matter, this was just a few hours before it was communicated to Silver members and under no circumstances could this be called a “consultation”, so this turn of phrase is both inaccurate and misleading.

During this meeting, and in previous correspondence and meetings with the club, the very firm view consistently expressed by all of us on behalf of our members had been that far greater account should be taken of the fact that Silver members were unable to buy any tickets this season – by far the most significant part of the membership package.

We were hoping to have a proper consultation where a solution that works for all would be found and we are now urging the club to rethink its strategy and find a better way forward. Arsenal are planning to launch a loyalty scheme. However, with the lack of meaningful consultation over the Silver membership, it makes it much harder to generate any sense of buy-in to such initiatives.

  1. Hi, haven’t had any updates from the club and my son has a silver membership due for renewal so what’s the latest you can renew this and what guarantees/refunds are in place in case of no crowds again next season? Thanks

    1. As we understand it, renewals for the current season ended at the end of February and are no longer possible, and there’s no news on renewals for next. As we said in the statement above, the information we were given regarding all of this was not, according to the club, going to be released until next week, so we’re in the dark about what the plans now are. We are in the process of following up our statement with the club.

  2. Arsenal is moving further and further away from its match attending fan base showing that it is losing its understanding and emotional attachment to said fan. Shame on you Arsenal. Money talks I guess.

Impossible not to agree with Mark Fenton. Alas, ever since the takeover of the club by American owners, the fans have been slowly marginalised. The proposed loyalty/rewards scheme sounds like another perceived money maker for the club to the detriment of people who only require ticket access

  3. I just asked my bank to refund my £59 for the last two seasons which my bank has done. I checked the terms and conditions and none of the so called benefits are included. I have a legal right to a refund.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I have asked Arsenal for a refund on numerous occasions as their membership scheme has not provided the benefit I paid £59 for. I was unfairly pressured into purchasing the membership as I was told that if I did not renew, I would lose my silver membership (see below). I have been offered a partial credit of £23 which I find unacceptable.

Can you please look into this matter.

You have the legal right to a refund if:

you feel you were unfairly pressured into buying a product or service you didn’t want
you were misled about the product or service you bought
