Apologies if there’s anyone out there still checking these blog pages. Your default blogger was incapacitated en route from watching Arsenal Women at Borehamwood. I won’t bore you with the details, although the saga may yet be covered in the pages of the Gooner at a later date.
Ah, yes, the Gooner. I’ve been writing content for that, so do keep checking it – buying it, even, if you like what you have seen here. And it’ll help the Gooner since this fanzine is a tradition longer than the once our team is establishing – finishing second in the Premier League.
In the couple of months I’ve been laid up, I’ve been thinking about these blogs even if I’ve not written any, staring at the ceiling and imagining themes I should be writing about – before drifting back off to sleep! Topics haves involved refereeing (but when have they never?), the state of pitches for women’s matches, Rahim Sterling, injuries, whatever happened to yellow cards for delaying restarts, interminable rumours about signings, and can this season please end soon.
Yet, as I write, with Liverpool stuttering (and losing to Fulham- Arsenal went the season before the Invincibles with just one home defeat and no away defeats…just shows you how amazing that team was) I am once more looking at fixtures and thinking we might yet win a trophy. Or two. Could things be on a knife-=edge when we travel to Anfield?
But then again, negative thoughts permeate my thinking. Might we have to form a guard of honour – or worse, if we drop points, will we secure them the title? Doesn’t bear thinking about!
But confidence returns – I’ve been looking at our other fixtures and they are winnable. And if Liverpool continue to waver….
I’d stay confident if we didn’t just keep losing players. And we can’t expect Saka (for one) to step back with the form he was in befire he was crocked. With the players available, and nursing back others, can we really compete with Liverpool and Real Madrid?
But, then again, Liverpool just lost to Fulham (who we beat last week) and Real Madrid lost to Valencia – a relegation threatened side – this weekend. Is it s unrealistic to think we can, you now, finish first for once?!
Come back here in a few days time and see if my hopes were realistic or if they killed me!
