The season so far

It has been a promising start to the season for our men’s team, with a minor road bump aside against Fulham. Last weekend’s result against Manchester United was hard fought but ultimately I think we were good value for the win.

The VAR interventions are as ever a key point of discussion. I was absolutely convinced that Garnacho was onside, even with the evidence in front of me. I was also certain that Havertz had been fouled going down the middle of two defenders.

In my view it was more difficult for Havertz to dive than it was to be fouled, and if it wasn’t considered a foul then surely Havertz must have been booked for diving?

The mistakes are one thing, but what most football fans are frustrated with referees about is the lack of consistency. You only have to look at Mike Dean’s comments for the hypocrisy of PGMOL’s position, who want to put their head in the sand and pretend that this doesn’t happen.

United certainly took their time over getting the ball back into play from the off on Sunday, and when you compare that to the situation for us against Palace, and Tomiyasu’s unjust sending off, there’s obvious reason for Arsenal fans to be frustrated.
