The Arsenal programme against PSV featured our walk in the footsteps of supporters over 120 years ago, describing when a group of us visited the original Royal Arsenal grounds in Woolwich and Plumstead.
‘The Arsenal Independent Supporters’ Association enjoyed a fabulous ‘history walk’, it reported.
‘Guided by an Arsenal historian, the group visited the remaining terraces of the Invicta Ground, where Royal Arsenal played, which were accessed courtesy of the owners of the house which now have the steps in their garden, and imagined the FA Cup tie vs Derby County (January 17, 1891).’
It went on to describe passing the original pitch on Plumstead Common before sheltering from the rain with a pint and refreshments at the original changing rooms – now a pub. The finish of the walk was Dial Square, where the first players worked – all amateur footballers, of course.
We hope to re-run the walk some time in the future, and if you’d like to be part of one, please email us at [email protected] and register your interest
