In 1893 Royal Arsenal FC was one of the most famous football clubs in England having brought professional football to the south of the country.
And yet despite the club’s prominence this was also to be the year when the club almost ceased to exist through a series of internal conflicts which led to a forced removal from their ground and the setting up of a rival club.
From this near extinction Woolwich Arsenal FC was born – a club which within 13 years was famous across Europe creating en route what can now be seen as the first ever “brand” in football.
This is the first ever telling of the complete Woolwich Arsenal story, a profound monument to the men without whose drive and determination not to be beaten there would be no Arsenal FC today.
